WALLS Exhibition

July 7, 2019

Today was the Opening Reception for the Petaluma Arts Center Exhibition titled: Walls.

I had a piece in this show titled "El Sueño Americano." I loved how they presented it with great lighting and nice spacing on the wall.

It was an honor to be part of a show with so many talented and passionate artists. Juror and renowned artist Chester Arnold gave out awards to very deserving artists: I was especially impressed by the work of Deepa Jayanth who painted multiple beautifully rendered images of Martin Luther King, Jr. to build a powerful statement. I found Craig Coss's piece to be delicate yet impactful, and Peggy Sebera's bold and captivating!

I found it very inspiring to reflect on the varied metaphors and interpretations of "Walls." There are many thought-provoking pieces throughout this show, ranging from photographs of The Berlin Wall and a sculpture of Trump on Twitter squashing The Statue of Liberty to a wall of tubs and a wall of women.

“…Before I built a wall I’d ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offense.
Something there is that doesn’t love a wall
That wants it down.”
